In the early, cold morning, as I walked a bit of the pilgrimage and arrived at the temple on the mountain top, I encountered two elderly people. "The deity here is a god of the sea," they told me. Descending a bit, I found many Jizo statues at the base of the temple. Ropes used by fishermen were wrapped around the boundary stones among the Jizo statues.

Is it a wish for a safe return, or a thought for the departed companions?

早朝の寒い中、お遍路を少し歩いて山の上の本堂へ着いた時に、二人の老人に出会った。
« ここの神様は海の神様なんだよ »と教えてくれた。
少し降りて、本堂の麓にたくさんのお地蔵さんがいた。
お地蔵さんたちの間に境界標石に漁師たちが使うロープが巻き付かれていた。

無事に戻って来れることを願ったているのか、
亡くなった仲間を思うことなのか。
