Shingo Yoshida (b. 1974, Tokyo)
Shingo Yoshida seeks out forgotten or disappearing legends and myths hidden in remote regions of the world. His practice reflects a deep awareness of human fragility and insignificance in the face of nature. Working across film, photography, drawing, and site-specific interventions, he explores the intersections of landscape, memory, and systems of knowledge.
His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago, Chile), and Based in Berlin. In 2017, he presented works created in Siberia at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23),
later acquired by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment.
His films are held in major public collections including the Berlinische Galerie, the Akademie der Künste,
and Fluentum (Berlin).
His photographs are held in the collection of The New York Public Library
and was featured in the exhibition The Awe of the Arctic: A Visual History (2024).
More recently, his films and photographs have entered additional public collections such as FRAC Sud (France, 2022),
the Gunma Museum of Art in Tatebayashi (Japan), and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Hamburg).
Recent exhibitions include L’Écologie des relations – La forêt amante de la mer at FRAC Sud – Plateau – Perspectives, Marseille (2026); Landscapes of Futures Past at Jia Yuan Hai Art Museum, Shanghai (2025);
and L’écologie des chosesat the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris (2025).
Yoshida has participated in several international artist residencies, notably at Villa Arson in Nice, and was awarded the Fellowship for Overseas Study by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs.
He holds a Master’s degree from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nice (Villa Arson, 2004) and completed postgraduate programs at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (2005) and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, La Seine program (2007).

English
Seeking the Hidden
I create works that explore daily life, cultural traditions, myths, and the relationships between people and nature across diverse regions of the world. My practice reflects on human fragility and insignificance in the face of nature.
Life is ephemeral. What matters is how we inhabit the present moment — the process of living and the preservation of memory through artistic practice.
My work evolves and grows with time.

Je crée des œuvres qui explorent la vie quotidienne, les traditions culturelles, les mythes et les relations entre les êtres humains et la nature à travers différents territoires. Ma pratique interroge la fragilité et l’insignifiance de l’être humain face à la nature.
La vie est éphémère. Ce qui importe, c’est la manière d’habiter le présent — le processus de vivre et la préservation de la mémoire par l’acte artistique.
Mon travail évolue et se transforme avec le temps.

Ich schaffe Arbeiten, die sich mit dem Alltag, kulturellen Traditionen, Mythen und den Beziehungen zwischen Mensch und Natur in verschiedenen Regionen der Welt befassen. Meine Praxis reflektiert die Zerbrechlichkeit und Bedeutungslosigkeit des Menschen angesichts der Natur.
Das Leben ist vergänglich. Entscheidend ist, wie wir im gegenwärtigen Moment leben — der Prozess des Lebens und das Bewahren von Erinnerungen durch künstlerische Praxis.
Meine Arbeiten entwickeln und verändern sich mit der Zeit.
