The videos by Shingo Yoshida constitute an investigation of the individual and its place and relevance in today’s reality.

They reveal the difficulty for contemporary human beings to integrate themselves into a constantly changing environment, to find an identity and function within globalized realities, mutating and confused cultures, and increasing migrations. His work raises the question of one’s origin, roots and identification, and stresses the notion of psychological and geographical territories.

In the video SOS Morse code-Fernsehturm (2010), the artist stages himself at the top of the Fernsehturm, sending out a Morse code SOS to a city that remains unconcerned.

With proximity to theater of the absurd, Yoshida questions the meaning of existence without finding pertinent answers.

In the video I prepared the perfect answer for what you wanted (2010), we find the artist alone in the middle of the Amazonian jungle.

He tries in vain to find his place and utility, confronted by a nature in which every element participates in the formation of a vital ecosystem, a meaningful ensemble.

Contrary to romanticism, nature here doesn’t constitute a relief for human’s suffering and doubts, but rather increases the questions of meaning and relevancy.

Die Videoarbeiten von Shingo Yoshida erforschen das Individuum, seine Verortung und Bedeutung in der heutigen Wirklichkeit. Sie offenbaren die Schwierigkeit des heutigen Menschen, sich in eine permanent verändernde Umgebung zu integrieren und innerhalb der globalisierten Realitäten, der sich wandelnden und verworrenen Kulturen und zunehmenden Migrationen, eine Identität und Funktion zu finden. Sein Werk, das die Frage nach unserem Ursprung, unseren Wurzeln und unserer Identifikation stellt, betont die Vorstellung von psychologischen und geografischen Territorien. In dem Video SOS Morse code-Fernsehturm (2010) inszeniert sich der Künstler selbst auf der Spitze des Fernsehturms und sendet SOS-Rufe an eine Stadt, die davon unberührt bleibt. Nah am absurden Theater stellt Yoshida die Bedeutung von Existenz infrage ohne angemessene Antworten zu finden.In dem Video I prepared the perfect answer for what you wanted (2010) finden wir den Künstler allein inmitten des Amazonas-Dschungels. Vergeblich sucht er seinen Platz und seine Bestimmung und ist dabei einer Natur gegenübergestellt, in der jedes Element in die Entwicklung eines vitalen Ökosys­tems, eines bedeutungsvollen Ensembles, eingebun­den ist. Im Gegensatz zur Romantik bietet die Natur hier allerdings keine Befreiung von menschlichem Leid und Zweifel, sondern wirft vielmehr weitere Fragen nach Sinn und Bedeutung auf.
